Air Interface

The air interface is the radio interface between a mobile communications handset and the Radio Base Station (RBS). It is the air interface that sets the limit for the network’s communication capabilities, e.g. how fast and how much information that the end user will receive.

Air Interface Technology

The air interface technology or radio access technology is used for transmission of radio signals between the mobile telephones and the RBSs.

There are three air interface technologies: FDMA, TDMA and CDMA. The two major air interface technologies of digital mobile standards are TDMA and CDMA. FDMA is used for transmitting analog data.
